Facelifted Tesla Model S Might Arrive as Soon .Just weeks after Tesla showed off its all-important Model 3, the Silicon Valley automaker might have a refreshed Model S in store for us.
Tim Stevens over at Roadshow report that Tesla will release an updated Model S with revised styling and interior appointments, perhaps as soon as next week. Roadshow cites unnamed but knowledgeable Tesla insiders who claim the Model S will get a nose similar to that of the Model 3 and the Model X, new LED headlamps and possibly some new color options.
The interior is said to receive the same seats used in the Model X and some additional storage compartments. Pricing is also said to increase with the facelifted model.A report from Electrek last week claims to have pictures of a camouflaged version of the cosmetically-updated Model S, though the picture quality makes it difficult to determine for certain. It’s hard to believe, but the Tesla Model S has been with us for four years—the perfect time for a cosmetic update, by traditional automaker standards.
Strangely, Tesla told us last October it didn’t have any plans for retooling the Model S, so perhaps this was a recent decision. Maybe Tesla wants to goose demand for the Model S, having seen how much interest there is in the Model 3, due out in 2017.The Model S will soon face new electric competition coming down the pipeline, and many of its chief luxury sedan rivals–most notably, the Mercedes Benz E and S-Classes–have improved significantly since the Model S debuted in 2012. Tesla doesn’t speculate on rumors, so don’t expect anything official from them until the rumored updates are revealed. We could know more about the new Model S very soon.
